Editorial policy
Northern News Network aims to make its explanations of place clear, careful and independent. We separate established information from interpretation, correct errors openly and identify material created in partnership.
Accuracy and context
We check factual claims against appropriate, reliable material before publication and take care not to imply that a map or description captures every aspect of a place. Geographic names, boundaries and routes can be used differently in different contexts; where that matters, we explain the distinction. We do not present general articles as directions or as a substitute for current local information.
Independence
Editorial decisions remain separate from commercial arrangements. A partner cannot require a favourable description, change an editorial conclusion or present an advertisement as independent coverage. We consider whether a collaboration fits the publication's subject and whether its nature can be described plainly to readers.
Corrections
If a reader spots a possible error, they can send a note through the Contact page. We review the point, check the relevant wording and make a correction when warranted. We aim to make substantive changes clear to readers rather than quietly leaving a misleading claim in place.
Partner material and illustrations
Sponsored articles, partner placements and other paid collaborations are labelled so readers can distinguish them from independent editorial material. Some illustrations may be AI-generated; where an illustration is AI-generated, it is identified as such. Illustrations are not presented as documentary evidence of a real place or event.
